There was a time when the Gods agreed that without darkness there is no light, and so epic creations from the dark soldiers of song came into being. Bands like Slayer, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, and Ozzy Osborne roamed the land with little to no challenge, thanks to uprisings of youths hungry for blood. Spawned from this movement was RIP Magazine. Published between 1986 and 1996, RIP Magazine was heralded as the finest hard rock publication of its day. Captained by editor-in-chief Lonn Friend, the magazine eventually met its demise at the hands of shit magazines and ever so resistant strains of pop music. As an ode to the fallen warriors of metal publishing, our buddy Owen O’Leary has decided to share with the world his prized archive of RIP magazines he collected over the years. This gnartastic blast from the past is now available at the Newsstand. Tooth from NATUR will be DJing some heavy tunes…. See you there!
*The Newsstand is in the subway station at the interchange between the G and L trains. If you haven’t been to it yet, this is the last month at this location and you can pick up all sorts of photo, art, culture and music zines and books.
