PROJECT#3-WADADA, meaning LOVE in Iyaric, stands for a firm believe in the designer’s own aesthetics.
The inspiration for these new series arised out of experiments of flax rope weave and the tactility of the material itself. A slow process that gradually resulted in a range of new garments re-presenting the feeling of being at ease, subsequently enriched and completed by Jan-Jan Van Essche’s latest developments within his continual research on simplicity in patterns and shapes.
The structure of the woven flax is re-interpreted and repeated in the knitted pieces yet carried out in a blend of gentle, soft Mongolian yak and contrasting coarse linen yarns. These knits were developed in collaboration with Antwerp based hand knitter Hilde Frunt.
